Backhouse Family Documents
Over the years of investigating The Grange Cindy has done extensive research on the history of the location and those who inhabited it at various times throughout it's history. On a number of occasions Cindy also roped Colin and Chris into helping with some hands on research at the Durham Archives, which included photographing and hand transcribing old family documents.
Cindy was given permission to reprint these documents from both the Durham Archives and the owner of the family archives, Rachel Rostas, who personally phoned Cindy to give her permission.
The document below is from photographs taken of the original wedding certificate Edward Backhouse and Lucy Backhouse Mounsey. At a Quaker (Society of Friends) marriage all guests are expected to sign as witnesses. Click on an image to see the full sized page.
