The Ella / Emma Hawkins' Ghost Case

 

 

On the night of 23 April, 1896 in San José, California, a local woman known as Ella/Emma Hawkins was murdered while in her room. Ella/Emma was one of the town's "soiled doves," and conducted her business from the little rented room in the lovely Victorian home which was at that time used as a boarding house. Just less than a month after the murder of Ella/Emma tenants began to move out, some with the complaint that Ella/Emma was haunting the house.
